Beyond Billabong was formed out of the work that had been conducted by Boyd Curran with the Waanyi people who are 51% owners of the Lawn Hill and Riversleigh Pastoral Holding Company (LHRPHC). Commencing in 2001 LHRPHC initiated a personal development training program on Riversleigh Station that achieved real outcomes for the participants, both personally and vocationally and in 2007 LHRPHC won the Queensland Premier’s Employment and Training award at the Reconciliation Awards.
In 2009 the Federal Government’s Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations saw the work first hand at Riversleigh and encouraged Boyd to create an organisation (Beyond Billabong) that would deliver innovative programs aimed at empowering Indigenous people. Beyond Billabong is now regarded as one of the leading organisations in Australia that delivers on its commitment to empower and support Indigenous people.
Beyond Billabong began by delivering life and vocational training programs for Indigenous people across the state whose access to mainstream resources and opportunities were limited.
The programs motivate and encourage participants through the development of their self-esteem and confidence in a hands-on, practical environment of success and personal achievement.
Our courses focus on the attitudes and core values of Respect, Safety and Positive Self-esteem through the creation of a safe, fun and supportive environment.
All Beyond Billabong programs are delivered in an environment that enables the participants to feel safe enough to share and deal with their most personal feelings and emotions, hopes and fears.
Beyond Billabong has a culture of excellence with extraordinary people involved in all areas of the organisation.
